Africa-Press – Cape verde. The current Head of State José Maria Neves and the former President of the Republic Pedro Pires are, this year, the special guests at the celebration of the Municipality of Tarrafal de Santiago and Nhu Santo Amaro, the patron saint of the municipality.
According to mayor José dos Reis Varela, Pedro Pires, in addition to attending this Friday, 12th, the solemn session of the Municipal Assembly 2024, will proceed, in his capacity as president of the Amílcar Cabral Foundation, to the opening of the inauguration of the photographic exhibition on the Amílcar Cabral’s centenary.
José dos Reis Varela made a point of highlighting that José Maria Neves is the other special guest at this year’s party and that he presided over the solemn session of the Municipal Assembly. «This year’s special guest is the President of the Republic, who is a great friend of Tarrafal and always does his best to participate in the Santo Amaro festivities, and who will certainly also bring reflections on the exercise of local power in Cape Verde».
The Solemn Session of the Municipal Assembly of Tarrafal has always been attended by many other guests, including the mayors of the island of Santiago and other islands, as well as the living forces of the municipality. “It included, as usual, interventions by political parties and citizens’ movements with seats in the Municipal Assembly, the Mayor and the President of the Municipal Assembly”, highlighted the same source.
