Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic stated, this Saturday, in the city of Praia, that Cape Verde is growing below its potential as it does not take advantage of its talents in several areas.
José Maria Neves, who spoke at the opening of the Cabo Verde Sports Festival conference, praised the talents in the areas of music, with morna as a World Heritage Site, and in sports he highlighted the “worldwide notoriety” achieved by the football, handball and basketball teams.
“ In the field of creative industries we can make a leap, if we see the qualities of our visual artists and our literature. These are areas that are certainly below our potential ”, observed José Maria Neves, highlighting that Cape Verde has to take advantage of its potential to achieve development.
For the head of state, Cape Verde, “sometimes” , does not have the dimension of the importance of the achievements achieved by its artists and athletes, exemplifying the relevance of the bronze medal achieved, in 2026, by the paralympic athlete Gracelino Barbosa, at the Games Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
“ We need to accelerate to continue growing according to our potential (…) because Cape Verdeans have talents in different areas and also with a large diasporic dimension” , he pointed out.
