Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic considered on Thursday that women are still under-represented in politics and Cabo Verde still has a long way ahead for improving the representativeness of the female class in the sector.

José Maria Neves intervened in the special solemn session alrelated to Freedom and Democracy Day that is celebrated on January 13 and which this year marks the 31st anniversary of the first multi-party elections held in Cabo Verde.

“We know that women are still under-represented in politics and their presence in the highest and decision-making positions are also not the best even in the private sector. In this field, there is still a long way ahead,” he said.

José Maria Neves also highlighted, during his speech, the problem of Gender-Based Violence that persists in Cabo Verdean society and whose victims are almost exclusively women.
