Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, will, starting this Tuesday, January 31, carry out an official four-day visit to the island of Sal. The social area and tourism will be in the center of attention.

According to a press release, the trip will serve for direct contacts with the population, with the authorities and the promoters of the various sectors of activity, within the framework of the proximity magistracy that he defined for his mandate.

The Head of State, who took upon himself the responsibility of being the main “Ombudsman of the Nation”, will, during this visit, find out about the social pulse, the economic dynamics and the great challenges of the island which, after being hit by the impacts of the Covid-19 Pandemic, is now looking to get back on its feet with the resumption of Tourism, its main economic activity.

On this trip, José Maria Neves says that he will thus pay strong attention to the social sector, with a focus on employment, housing and the family, as well as the fight against Gender-Based Violence and the sexual violation of minors, with visits to various communities and to related institutions.

Tourism under review

The Head of State will also have the Tourism sector at the center of his agenda, the island’s lever, with visits to some undertakings and meetings with institutions and organizations linked to the sector.

During the four-day visit to the island of Sal, the Civil Aeronautics sector and the military structures on the island will also be part of the Program of the Highest Magistrate of the Nation, with trips to the ASA and the II Military Region.

José Maria Neves’ visit to Sal begins on Tuesday, however, with a courtesy visit to the Mayor at 09:00.

On the same day, the President of the Republic will be at the companies Águas de Ponta Preta and Aeroportos e Segurança Aérea, ASA, as well as at the National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics – INMG.
