An order from the prime minister’s office, published in the Official Gazette of September 1, ends the term of office of Imadoeno Tavares as President of the Board of Directors (PCA) and director of the Agostinho Neto University Hospital in Praia (HAN ). The permanence of Imadoeno Tavares in office had been contested because he had been convicted of a crime of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Meanwhile, Gabriel Gonçalves has already been appointed to the position previously held by Imadoeno Tavares, who will take office this Sunday, September 3rd.
Another change in the leadership of the Hospital Universitário Agostinho Neto is the appointment of Melissa Cristina de Carvalho Santos as the third executive member of the Board of Directors, replacing Helena Maria Borges da Silva Mendonça who left the position at her request.
The order came into force immediately after its publication and the new members of the CA take office this Sunday, September 3rd.
Conviction for GBV
It should be remembered that the permanence of Imadoeno Tavares in the position of PCA of HUAN was being contested, for having been convicted of a crime of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), following events that occurred in 2017, when he was still PCA of Hospital Santa Rita Vieira, in Achada Falcão, Santa Catarina de Santiago.
In edition 833 of Jornal A Nação, of August 17, Imadoeno Tavares, whose sentence will have been known between January and February of this year, said that the case resulted from a situation of blackmail and that he only did not appeal the sentence to avoid further exposure public with another trial.
