Africa-Press – Cape verde. Organized by the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries, through the National Library, in partnership with Camões, Institute of Cooperation and Language, the fair took place from April 26th to May 5th and had a total of 24 stands and more than 50 thousand titles.
“The evaluation is frankly positive, as we had an extraordinary turnout of families, parents, national and international personalities, and civil society in general, which ended up making the fair even greater”, said the president of the Library National.
According to the person responsible, the volume of sales during those 10 days far exceeded expectations, with more than 20 thousand books sold to the National Library itself, but also to the publishers that joined forces and institutions specializing in the book market that were present at the event.
Matilde Santos also highlighted the “strong” participation of the young public, an engagement that, in her opinion, constitutes “huge satisfaction” for the organization.
“Many of the collections were completely sold out in the first few days, even though there was a very significant quantity because we already knew that these are collections that are highly appreciated by young people”, he said.
According to the same source, the autograph session, the book launch, the panels with renowned personalities in the field of literature and the book market itself and all the parallel activities, in a certain way ended up creating this natural dynamic and making the volume sales was also much higher than expected.
“I think that in an event of this nature, there is always room for improvement and we believe that in the next editions we can count on even more exhibitors, more booksellers and national publishers and we will continue with this focus on technical, specialized books that ended up creating a different dynamic than fairs that we have been holding”, he concluded.
After the city of Praia, he said that the fair will extend to other municipalities and islands, such as the Tarrafal Concentration Camp, followed by the islands of Sal (both in Espargos and Santa Maria), Brava Island, Fogo, São Vicente, Santo Antão and other islands.
