Praia: Municipal guards start today three-day strike

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The municipal guards of Praia start, this Monday, 23, a three-day strike. At issue is the non-compliance with a series of claims that had been assumed by the municipality. The guards claim the attribution of 30 percent (%) of the fines imposed during the year 2021.

In a press release from the Trade and Services Workers’ Union (STCS), after failed attempts at conciliation, in a meeting with the local authority mediated and promoted by the General Directorate of Labour, on the 18th of January, these professionals decided to go on strike as a way of claiming their rights.

Cited by Inforpress, the president of that union, Benito de Paula Gomes, said that in a memorandum of understanding agreed with the municipality, the city council had promised to liquidate, until last December, the product of the fine that is provided for in the Municipal Posture Code for the year 2021 , but it still hasn’t.

“And during the last negotiation, the municipality did not give any forecast when it will make the payment, so we did not reach an understanding”, he said.

Also according to the union, to this claim are added promotions and progressions that have expired and not been granted, implementation of the Municipal Police statute and its regulation, as well as the uniform.

The strike starts at 7:30 am today, the 23rd, and ends at 7:30 am on the 26th.

This Monday’s rally is scheduled for Praça Alexandre Albuquerque – Plateau, in front of the Paços do Concelho.
