The Praia Municipal Police (PM) imposed 2,673,500 escudos in fines and initiated 33 administrative offence proceedings covering areas such as commerce, health, traffic, urban planning and community policing, during inspection operations carried out during the festive season.
According to the Praia Municipal Council, in the context of retail trade, 4,229 stops were made related to illegal occupation and sales on public roads. In addition, 33 commercial establishments that were the subject of complaints were inspected, resulting in the seizure of four licences.
In terms of protecting public health, the PM monitored the slaughter of animals at the municipal slaughterhouse and inspected the entry of uncooked meat into the markets. Illegal beef and pork meat was identified at the Achadinha market, leading to the removal of several points of sale on public roads.
In the traffic sector, the same source points out that the inspection covered 2,407 vehicles, including taxis and goods transport vehicles. Thirty-four vehicles were blocked for illegal parking in parking meter areas, and 67,500 passengers were counted on intercity transport throughout the month.
As for urban planning, of the 162 buildings inspected, 30 were embargoed for infractions such as lack of permits or changes to the projects, and 12 of them ended up being demolished.
In addition to the inspection actions, the PM carried out community policing activities.
