Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government is collecting “reliable” information to determine the responsibilities in the case of the demolition of the Várzea tennis court, by the Embassy of the United States of America (USA).
The statement was made by the Deputy Prime Minister for Youth and Sports, Carlos Monteiro, when questioned by journalists on Wednesday, during the commemorations of the World Day of Physical Activity, about the executive’s position on this issue.
“We are receiving all the information about the agreements signed between the Praia Chamber, the Tennis Club, the Government and the US Embassy to really understand who is responsible, before having a definitive and formal statement on the matter,” the governor added.
However, he advanced that the Government “solidarizes” with athletes and coaches for being left without the only space they had for training and sports competitions.
“It is something that should be completely avoidable and the consequence will be serious when we have a single infrastructure for the practice of a modality and it is the target of what happened”, considered the minister, who characterizes the episode as “a tremendous lack of respect for the sport, for the modality and above all for the young athletes”.
