Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Base Health Unit (USB) in São Francisco has not been operating for two years and has “made life difficult” for residents of this town located around 15 kilometers from the city of Praia.

The complaint was made to Inforpress by the president of the São Francisco Community Association, João Ferreira, who refuted the statement made by the director of Municipal Health Promotion, Eveline Barbosa, when she said that USB is in the process of requalification.

“It hasn’t been working for two years, there was a person responsible who had to leave due to illness. After that, the place was closed and stopped working ”, explained João Ferreira, noting that this is a service that is greatly missed by the community.

“There are people who need dressings and others who need vaccines and to do so they have to go to the Achada Trás Health Center, which is on the outskirts of the city of Praia ,” he said.

Meanwhile, the director of Municipal Health Promotion, in a recent interview with Inforpress, said that the city council has periodically carried out health promotion activities in the community to make up for the lack of a USB.

Furthermore, he added that the municipality, through the Municipal Health Promotion Department, has a health team that carries out home follow-ups, twice a week, on the elderly in São Francisco.

“ We are currently training family members of elderly people with reduced mobility or bedridden, so that they can have closer and more frequent follow-up ,” he added.
