The presence of the Angolan PR in Cape Verde “comes to give the bilateral relationship and a dimension consistent with the long common history, the intense cultural harmony and the excellent political understanding that has always existed between the two countries”, reads in a statement.
In the country’s capital, according to the published agenda, the Angolan head of state will hold a meeting with his counterpart José Maria Neves, at the Palace of the Presidency of the Republic, with an intervention in the special session of the Cape Verdean Parliament, by invitation. of the President of the National Assembly.
João Lourenço will also hold a meeting with the prime minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, at which time important agreements between the parties will be signed.
According to the visiting agenda, in Praia, the Angolan President will receive the keys to the city, followed by moments of “great symbolism”, with the laying of a wreath at the Amílcar Cabral Memorial and a visit to the Amílcar Cabral Foundation.
Visit extends to São Vicente
On the island of São Vicente, the Presidents of Cape Verde and Angola will visit points of economic interest, such as the Frescomar canning plant and the Desalinated Water Production Station, as well as the handover of the keys to the city of Mindelo and a visit to the Technical University of the Atlantic (UTA).
João Lourenço’s visit aims to reciprocate the State visit that José Maria Neves made to Angola, last January, and will contribute to “elevating the existing excellent relations” and authenticating the strategic partnership between the two countries.
João Lourenço, who arrived in Praia on Sunday, is accompanied by the first lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, the ministers of Foreign Affairs and Transport and senior officials of the Presidency of the Republic of Angola.
