Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, Carlos Vila Nova, arrived this Sunday afternoon in Praia for an official four-day visit to Cape Verde as part of the historic ties of friendship and cooperation that unite the two countries. .
Tomorrow, Monday, the 13th, the Cape Verdean Head of State, José Maria Neves and his counterpart Carlos Vila Nova, will have a tete-a-tete, followed by a ceremony to award the President of Santomean with the First Degree of the Order Amílcar Cabral, in a “gesture of recognition for the uniqueness of the ties between the Cape Verdean and São Tomé peoples”.
According to a press release from the Presidency of the Republic of Cape Verde, the distinction given by José Maria Neves to Carlos Vila Nova is also a recognition of the “commitment, sense of leadership and invigorating commitment of the Sao Tome Head of State to strengthening relations between the two peoples and States and their contribution to an increasingly better insertion of the Cape Verdean community residing in São Tomé”.
Solemn session of the National Assembly
Still tomorrow, Monday, the 13th, the President of São Tomé and Príncipe will be welcomed in a solemn session of the National Assembly and receive the keys to the City of Praia, in the Town Hall, in addition to laying a wreath at the Amílcar Cabral Memorial.
In the afternoon, President Carlos Manuel Vila Nova receives the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, on a courtesy visit, and visits Inpharma Laboratories and Uni-CV, before being graced with an official dinner offered by the President of the Republic from Cape Verde.
Visit to the interior of Santiago and São Vicente
On Tuesday, the 14th, the São Toméan Head of State will carry out a program in the interior of the island of Santiago, with trips to the Resistance Museum, to the Tarrafal Concentration Camp, and to the University of Santiago.
On his return to Praia, he visits the NOSI (Operational Nucleus of the Information Society) and meets with the São Tomé community residing in the country.
On Wednesday the 15th, Carlos Vila Nova’s visit program will be fully completed on the island of São Vicente, with the reception of the Keys of the City of Mindelo, visits to Porto Grande and to some companies and institutions.
“ High level of relations ” between the two countries
The Presidency of the Republic of Cape Verde, refers that the trip of Carlos Manuel Vila Nova to Cape Verde is the response to an invitation from the Cape Verdean Head of State, José Maria Neves, and reflects the “high level of relations and the strongest ties genuine bonds of brotherhood and consanguinity that intertwine the two States and peoples marked by a common past”.
“Under circumstances that were once dramatic, such as the forced emigration of Cape Verdeans to the “Southern Lands”, the two Creole Nations of the Atlantic built, over time, multiple bridges of affection and fraternity that translate, in a particular way, in the relevant community of Cape Verdeans and their descendants, already in the fourth generation, in São Tomé and Príncipe”, says the press release from the Presidency of the Republic of Cape Verde.
Bilateral relations between Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe cover the most diverse sectors, namely education, health, justice, fisheries, agriculture, in addition to new technologies, digital economy, electronic governance, tourism, public administration and the private sector.
It should be remembered that the visit of President Carlos Vila Nova was initially scheduled for the 26th of November, but was canceled due to the attempted coup d’état in São Tomé and Príncipe registered from the 24th to the 25th of November 2022.
