President of the Republic argues that it is necessary to create a culture of peace in Cape Verde

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic defended today that it is necessary to create a culture of peace in Cape Verde, so that neighbors understand each other better, and that there is greater friendship between colleagues at work, school and in the family.

According to Inforpress, this challenge was launched after José Maria Neves visited the “Amor em Ação ” fair, a social and humanitarian event promoted by Jovens com Uma Missão (YWAM), in the Eugénio Lima neighborhood, in partnership with several institutions responsible for promoting of social well-being in Cape Verde.

The purpose of the event was to provide assistance and presentation of services, clarifications, guidance and advice to the local population.

The President stated, in a press interview, that this act is very good, because, from his perspective, Cape Verde only grows with the empowerment of civil society and citizens in all areas.

“Here, young people with a mission who had previously created El Shadai tents are now working with communities to raise the social capital of our communities, to create a civic spirit and show people that it is worth taking care of ourselves , and take care of each other ”, he highlighted, reinforcing that initiatives of this nature end up helping society to grow spiritually.

In this sense, the head of state argued that it is necessary to create a culture of peace in Cape Verde, so that neighbors understand each other better, so that there is greater friendship between work colleagues, between family members, and colleagues at school. .

Still according to the same source, he added that it is necessary to combat incivilities, such as the destruction of traffic signs, public property, dirtying the streets, and attacking a neighbor.

For his part, Jocum member, Alberto Afonso, explained that this is the second year that they have carried out this type of activity, despite the thirteen years of this association, now decentralized to the communities.

“Last year we did it in the square, in Platô, but as we understand that social problems are not in Platô, but in the communities, we decided to raise awareness among institutions so that we can carry out this activity together”, he said.

Under the motto “ Love in Action” , the neighborhood of Eugénio Lima was the first chosen to host the fair, in order to show, according to this person, the people of this neighborhood and of Cape Verde in general, where to go when they need something , and that together it is possible to do a lot for the lives of each person in a community, instead of marginalizing or pointing fingers.

According to Inforpress, as partners, Jocum had in this activity the National Police, the Armed Forces, the National Commission for Human Rights and Citizenship, the Ombudsman’s Office, the City Council, Associations, Colmeia, Verdefam, Donana Foundation, and churches, to showcase their services, and raise awareness of good social practices.
