Africa-Press – Cape verde. The ECOWAS Heads of State and Government will meet on 4 June in Accra, Ghana, for an extraordinary summit. Event from which the President of the Cape Verdean Republic, José Maria Neves will be absent for “logistical and financial reasons”.

The information was provided by the Presidency of the Republic, in a press release.

Por razões “logísticas e financeiras”, Cabo Verde estará representado na cimeira de Acra pelo embaixador extraordinário e plenipotenciário de Cabo Verde na República da Nigéria, Belarmino Silva.

Temas

At the meeting, according to the same source, topics related to the situation in Mali, Guinea-Concacry and Burkina Faso, which are facing political crises, and which have been the scene of coups d’état since August 2020, will be on the table.

Since then, ECOWAS has pressured the military junta, now in power, to return power to civilians, having suspended these three countries from their jurisdiction.

On January 9, 2022, the organization decided to impose stricter measures against Mali, after the military declared its willingness to lead the country in the coming years, thus breaking the commitment to organize elections in February this year.

The three countries in question in West Africa, ruled by soldiers after coups d’état, are suspended from the bodies of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
