Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, travels on Thursday, 25, to France to represent the country at the opening of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, on Friday, 26, in the Sena.
“The head of state will represent the country and support, for the first time at the highest level, the largest Cape Verdean delegation ever in what is considered the most emblematic sports competition in the world,” the Republic’s presidential press release was sent to Inforpress.

In the margin of the official ceremonies of the Olympic Games, José Maria Neves will participate in the Sports and Durable Development Summit ‘Sport et Développement durable’, at the invitation of his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, and the President of the International Olympic Committee, (COI), Thomas Bach.

“The event proves to be an excellent opportunity to celebrate the sport and its values for the benefit of future generations. The Paris Agreement for Sport and Sustainable Development should come out of the Summit,” the document said.

According to the agenda, José Maria Neves will be with the Olympic delegation of Cape Verde on Friday morning, 26, at the Embassy of Cape Verde in France.

According to the statement, the head of state will preside at the opening ceremony of the Cape Verde House on Saturday, 27, “designed to celebrate the national culture and disseminate the potential of the country in this that is the largest showcase of the world sport.”

Neves also appealed to the Nation and the vast diaspora to be united and to support, with its positive energy, the Cape Verde team that “worthyly represents the country”.

Before the departure of the Olympic delegation to France, the President of the Republic handed over the flag of Cape Verde and called on the athletes, technical staff and heads of the Olympic Committee to absorb the Olympic spirit and actively participate in the world event.
