Africa-Press – Cape verde. The current situation of African sport is one of the points to be discussed between the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves and the FIFA Development Directorate, which includes the director of African federations, Cape Verdean Gelson Fernandes. The meeting takes place this afternoon.
It is, according to the presidency of the Republic, an opportunity to address the current situation of African and Cape Verdean football and sport, as well as the projects in perspective for the African continent and for Cape Verde.
Gelson Fernandes, who as a footballer has spent time at Sporting de Portugal, represented Sion, Manchester City, Saint-Étienne, Chievo, Leicester City, Udinese, Freiburg, Rennes and Eintracht Frankfurt, the club in which he ended his career in 2019/20.
Born in Praia, Gelson Fernandes made 68 appearances and scored two goals for Switzerland and was in the final stages of Euro’ 2008, Mundial’ 2010, Mundial’ 2014, Euro 2016 and Mundial’ 2018.
