Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, once again defends the need for reforms in the functioning of the African Union, regarding the organization’s Summit scheduled for February 16th to 19th in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia.​

The issue of security in Africa, the presentation and analysis of the report on the institutional reforms of the African Union will be the topics under analysis at the 37th Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.

In a statement, the Presidency of the Republic highlights the importance of Cape Verde’s participation in the meeting.

“This participation is crucial, given the relevance of the topics being analyzed and debated during these summits”, the document reads.

The head of state recalls that he has drawn attention “to the need for reforms within the organization” that would help promote the environment, resolve conflicts in some countries on the continent and promote the rule of law.

“From the perspective of multi-level governance that allows us to respond, not only in terms of promoting pro-environmental policies, but also in terms of resolving existing conflicts in some countries and promoting the rule of law on the continent”, he says .

During the meeting, Neves will present an annual report , Champion for the Preservation of Africa’s Natural and Cultural Heritage, a document that will be analyzed within the scope of the African Union’s Annual Report.

In Addis Ababa, José Maria Neves will also represent Cape Verde at a high-level meeting of small African island states.
