President of the Republic says that the Government must take measures to comply with BCV recommendations on INPS auctions

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government must take measures to be consistent with the recommendations of the Bank of Cape Verde (BCV) in relation to the auction of the National Social Security Institute (INPS) to guarantee “transparency in the management of public affairs”.

This is the position of the President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, in relation to the auction, who is following the debate on this issue with “very close attention”.

“The President of the Republic has to wait for the different political actors to debate and take the decisions that are necessary in these contexts”, said José Maria Neves, indicating that he is not familiar with the report, but that according to the statement from the BCV, which is the entity regulator, “there was no transparency” in the process.

According to the head of state, the entire process is not suitable for a public institution such as the INPS, the BCV, which regulates the financial system, was not consulted and the entire process was “not transparent” and because of this the BCV calls on the competent authorities to adopt measures, namely annulment of the entire process.

The Government, according to José Maria Neves, cannot hold, as the Minister of Finance said, a meeting between the Central Bank, INPS and the Government itself to articulate positions because this goes against the autonomy and Independence of the Central Bank, on the one hand.

On the other hand, he continued, “it is essential” that the Government pays attention to the corporate governance of the INPS, which is a special public institute that manages taxpayer resources and management must be carried out with “rigor and transparency, complying with the rules”.

“The President of the Republic waits for the Government, in this context, to take appropriate measures in relation to this auction and the way in which it took place”, said José Maria Neves.

Asked about the inspection of the Presidency of the Republic, the head of State said that it is an inspection of administrative services and that the President of the Republic does not directly monitor it, but that according to information from the head of the Civil House the inspection has already ended and the presidency awaits “calmly and serenely” the results.
