President of the Republic visits isolated regions in Santo Antão and makes positive assessment

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Cidade das Pombas, Paul, Jun 14 (Inforpress) – The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, made a positive assessment of his five-day visit to the island of Santo Antão, during which he contacted populations of the island’s most isolated regions.

During his stay in Santo Antão, José Maria Neves noted the existence of complex challenges, similar to what happens a little around the world at this time, but they are challenges that do not differ much from what happens in the rest of the country.

“It was an emotional visit, to get close to people, especially those who live in the most distant communities,” said José Maria Neves, who, on this visit, contacted the farmers from Ribeira da Cruz and Martiene and went to the village of Figueiras, one of the most isolated on the island of Santo Antão.

To get to Figueiras it takes more than two hours of walking down and another three hours to climb, and the local population has to make this route (almost) every day to have access to goods that are only available in urban centers.
