Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government dismissed Raffaella Gozzelino from the position of dean of the Universidade Técnica do Atlântico (UTA) and appointed João Duarte as the new dean of this university, according to resolutions published this Friday.
According to the same document, quoted by Inforpress, this decision responds to requests for dismissal from the vice-rector of the UTA, João do Monte Duarte, and the pro-rector, Maria Osvaldina Silva.
Therefore, João do Monte Duarte, leaves the position of vice-rector to direct the UTA, while Luís Jorge Monteiro Fernandes will be the current vice-rector and Lia Cordeiro Lima Medina was appointed pro-rector to replace Maria Osvaldina Sousa Duarte, who also asked for a waiver.
“Considering that the guiding spirit of the appointment” of the rectoral team “is based on the perspective of teamwork, involvement and participation of teachers and other employees”, which implies a “model of collegiate management and functioning of the governance bodies of the UTA with observance of the culture of dialogue and commitment”.
The Executive justified this decision with the “need to reinforce, reinforce the internal dialogue, with the academic community of the university and institutional, in particular with the national partners of the process of expansion of higher education underlying the creation of the UTA and the organic units in the islands”. where the university will be operating, in compliance with the Government Programme”
Considerou ainda ser “necessário consolidar o processo de instalação e o regular funcionamento dos órgãos de governança da universidade, entendendo ser adequado e mais ajustado ao cumprimento dos objectivos estratégicos que justificaram a criação da UTA aceitar os pedidos de demissão e, simultaneamente, acertar com a reitora a cessação da comissão de serviço de todos os membros da equipa reitoral, em observação do princípio da colegialidade que presidiu à nomeação e atendendo o interesse público do processo de instalação da universidade”.
Em 2020, o Governo decidiu transferir o património, os estudantes e os funcionários da Faculdade de Engenharias e Ciências do Mar da Universidade de Cabo Verde (Uni-CV) para a UTA.
A criação da UTA e do Campus do Mar enquadram-se no projecto da Zona Económica Especial Marítima em São Vicente (ZEEMSV).
Raffaella Gozzelino has held the position of rector of the UTA since August 2020.
