Requests for teachers' unpaid leave: Minister of Education alleges health and family reunification issues

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Education, Amadeu Cruz, said this week that the departure of teachers, through requests for unpaid leave, is mainly related to health issues, family reunification abroad and other reasons considered legitimate.

Amadeu Cruz thus reacted to the recent publication in the Official Bulletin (BO) of the list of 67 teachers who this year requested unpaid leave and the consequent reaction from the unions who stated that teachers are leaving due to lack of motivation.

The official, quoted by Inforpress, stressed that teachers are free and that the Ministry of Education must respect the rights of workers that are enshrined in the labor code, on the one hand, and in the teaching career statute, on the other.

“Young people are free and should seek, as much as possible, their satisfaction”, he said, indicating, on the other hand, that the Ministry of Education has sought to fulfill its duties in order to maintain a regulated teaching career.

“We are making efforts to normalize the careers of teachers and, in this sense, I think that even the salary allocated to teachers is an attractive salary in terms of public administration, but teachers have legitimacy”, he defended.
