Africa-Press – Cape verde. TAAG is expected to announce the date for the resumption of flights between Angola and Cape Verde in the coming months. Guarantee given today by the president of the Board of Directors of Transportadora Aérea Angolana.
António dos Santos Domingos was speaking to journalists after a meeting with the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, at the Ministry of the Sea, in São Vicente.
“We don’t have concrete dates. We believe that with the evolution of TAAG’s financial situation, in the next four or five months we will be in a position to indicate a date. We also addressed this issue with the Prime Minister and clarified what opportunities and market potential currently exist and, therefore, this partnership will come into fruition in the coming months. We will receive new aircraft between July, August and September and, from then on, we will say the specific day of the start of the operation”, he states.
When asked about the frequency of connections, he states that these issues are defined based on the “economicity of operations”.
It should be remembered that Transportadora Aérea Angolana suspended direct flights between Luanda and Praia at the end of 2016, with a stop in São Tomé and Príncipe, due to the route’s lack of profitability.
The expansion of cooperation between TAAG and TACV was another point analyzed at the meeting
“As you know, TAAG has a very close relationship with TACV, as a reflection of relations between Cape Verde and Angola. We are currently in the process of extending the contract we have with TACV and we have expressed this directly to the Prime Minister, our desire to continue collaborating and maintaining this partnership. We have a leasing contract and we are renewing it for another year,” he explains.
The Prime Minister of Cape Verde did not make statements to the press at the end of the meeting.
