Africa-Press – Cape verde. Revenue generated from bets placed on Totoloto and Joker decreased by 3% in 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, informed the president of the Cape Verde Red Cross, Arlindo de Carvalho.
Speaking to Inforpress, when taking stock of revenue from social games in Cape Verde, the president of the Red Cross of Cape Verde reported that on December 31, 2023, 99 agencies were active.
“The number of agencies decreased -2%, compared to the same period last year, 2022. In 2022, we had 101 agencies, in 2023 we had a total of 99 active agencies and in 2021 we had a total of 108 active agencies”, he pointed out, indicating that the total revenue generated in 2023 was 532,672,090.
As for revenues at island level, according to Arlindo de Carvalho, in 2023, 257,475,850 were generated on the island of Santiago, however representing -6% of that in 2022, which, in turn, was 273,231,820. On the island of Maio, revenue generated was 4,265,410 -11%, compared to the year 2022, which was 4,815,160.
However, on the island of Fogo, he continued, there was a 4% increase in revenue generated in 2023 compared to 2022, with last year revenue being around 23 thousand contos and 22 thousand contos in 2022.
On the island of Brava, there was a decrease of around 20% in revenue generated, with the value recorded in 2023 being 2,470,070 and in 2022 it was 3,075,990. In turn, in São Vicente in 2023 the total revenue was 139,478,830 and in 2022, the total revenue was 141,282,250, thus registering a reduction of 1%.
According to the president of the Red Cross, in 2022 and 2023, revenue generated on the island of Santo Antão remained at the same percentage with the value of 35,611,490 last year and 35,731,530.
In turn, the island of São Nicolau registered an increase of 4% with a value of 7,237,630 in 2023 and 6,987,040 in 2022, adding that on the island of Sal there was also an increase of 5%, with a total of 49,479 ,150 in 2023 and 46,913,090 in 2022.
He pointed out, on the other hand, that on the island of Boa Vista, the total revenue generated in 2023 was 13,630,310 while in 2022 the revenue was 13,331,500, thus representing an increase of 2%.
“Under regulations, 50% of bets are allocated to prizes. In 2023, the total amount in premiums was 532,672,090 escudos (ECV), generating revenue for the State, through IRPS, in the amount of 53,267,209 ECV. Thirteen percent of the bets go to the State, through the Treasury, the equivalent of 69,247,372 ECV, destined for childhood, education, social promotion, sport and culture”, he revealed.
He mentioned, on the other hand, that the Cape Verde Red Cross received 12% of the value of the bets, the equivalent of 63,920,651, to develop its humanitarian activities in various areas, namely, education, health, childhood, elderly and care, aid and emergencies.
It also reported that 10% of gaming revenue went to commissions attributed to agents and 15% to the Gaming Department’s operating expenses, corresponding to 53,267,209 and 79,900,814, respectively.
“The social games operated by the Red Cross have directly and indirectly generated income for families, both through prizes and through commissions attributed to gaming agents. In this particular, in 2023, 99 families/agencies benefited from gaming income through the commission to gaming agencies, in the amount of 53,267,209”, he concluded.
