Africa-Press – Cape verde. Religious activities in honor of the festivities of Our Lady of Deliverance, celebrated on September 24th in Ponta do Sol, Santo Antão, are taking place with great hope and focus on the Jubilee Year.

“With the protection of Our Lady of Deliverance, let us walk with hope” is the theme chosen for this year’s festivities, as Rui Nobre, the parish priest of the Parish of Our Lady of Deliverance, told Inforpress.

“Since we are in the Jubilee Year, the year of hope, we chose this theme for this year, already included within this Jubilee Year, as we walk under the protection of the Virgin with hope in eternal life and with God,” he said.

According to Parish Priest Rui Nobre, this is a celebration for the church and the entire parish community. He therefore asked everyone to get involved, living with faith and love, always looking to the Virgin Mary, who is the example and who points the way to hope.

Scheduled religious activities include Confirmation, a fiddle, and a cultural dinner. Also scheduled for the coming days are a pilgrimage to the chapels of Our Lady of Sorrows in the communities, visits to various pastoral members and parish movements, a Mass with fishermen in the Lagedos area, a boat procession, confessions, Mass at the civil jail and at the Senior Citizens’ Day Center, an evening Mass, a candlelight procession, and a solemn Mass in honor of the patron saint, Our Lady of Deliverance, presided over by Father José Eduardo of Praia, on September 24th at 10:30 am.

In addition to the religious aspect, the Nossa Senhora do Livramento festivities always feature cultural activities, including concerts with musical bands, but no cultural lineup has yet been announced.

The city of Ponta do Sol, in the parish of Nossa Senhora do Livramento, is the northernmost territory of Cape Verde and is considered one of the most organized and cleanest regions in the archipelago. It is also home to several public institutions, such as the City Hall, the region’s main district, a regional jail, and hotels. It receives numerous tourists from around the world every day.
