Ribeira Grande: Students from Escola Secundária Suzete Delgado demonstrate “against the education system”

Africa-Press – Cape verde. More than two hundred students from Escola Secundária Suzete Delgado, Ribeira Grande, Santo Antão, demonstrated this Thursday through the city’s main arteries “against the education system”.

“Learning yes, saturation no, “Students on the street, the minister is your fault”, “Amadeu Cruz, but we are the ones who carry the cross, “We are students not guinea pigs for the Ministry of Education, “55 assessments per quarter, that is inhumane, “No final exams, stop, “Where is the Spanish teacher, “Where is the ICT program”, were some of the slogans given during the demonstration.

Speaking to the press, Yara Miranda, one of the organizers of the demonstration, explained that the Ministry of Education has been committing “many injustices” and has “saturated” students with “many subjects and assessments”.

As the same source highlighted, students are not learning, but they are constantly being assessed.

“This initiative aims to show the Ministry of Education that we are not satisfied. We have already accustomed them to being silent and accepting everything, but we will no longer be guinea pigs for the system”, she concluded.

Yara Miranda emphasized that there is no program for the subjects ICT, Literature and Philosophy and the Ministry of Education also wants students to take a test worth 30 percent (%), which, in her opinion, could fail them regardless of their efforts. made during the academic year.

Yara Miranda appealed to the Ministry of Education to at least reduce the percentage of the test and that of the three assessments there should simply be two, as they had stipulated in the first quarter.

“We are not guinea pigs because everything is experienced in our generation and not even teachers know how to deal with this system where everything arrives at the last minute”, concluded Yara Miranda, one of the organizers of the demonstration.
