Africa-Press – Cape verde. With 38 goals scored, the Cape Verdean player Ricardo Gomes was considered the best player/scorer in the Serbian Superliga. The forward broke the club record that belonged to Serbian Mateja Kežman with 35 goals since 1999.

Ricardo Gomes thus won two trophies this season in the trophy room of the Partizan Stadium in Belgrade: the Kolet Cup, which is presented to the best player in the Serbian Superliga, as well as the “Slobodan Santrac” trophy, which the Football Association of Serbia (FSS) delivers to the top scorer.

The “Slobodan Santrac” trophy was presented to the Cape Verdean international by Nenad Santrac, son of the legendary forward of Partizan and the ex-Yugoslavia national team.

The player, born in Sal, entered the club’s history and became part of the “Club 100″, which distinguishes players with more than 100 games for Partizan.

other achievements

Ricardo Gomes’ curriculum is extensive. Among other achievements, the Cape Verdean international forward, had been elected footballer of the year of the II Portuguese League in 2018, in a distinction that was promoted by the Association of Sports Journalists (CNID).

After this excellent achievement at the service of Nacional da Madeira, Ricardo Gomes signed in June, of the same year (2018), for Partizan de Belgrade, Serbia, for a year later to reinforce Al Sharjah, from the United Arab Emirates, with a contract of three seasons.

In fact, in 2019, together with Ryan, Ricardo Gomes, won the UAE Super Cup with Sharjah FC.

Meanwhile, he also represented Arabian Gulf League’s Ittihad Kalba FC and Turkey’s Erzurum BB on loan from Al Sharjah.

In June 2021, the Cape Verdean international returned to Serbia and Partizan de Belgrade, where he is currently located.

Selection exit

Recently, in September 2021, he made the decision to leave the national team, on the eve of the reception of the Blue Sharks to Nigeria.

On social media, Ricardo Gomes explained the reasons that led him to take that attitude.

“For those who know, trips from Serbia to Cape Verde or another African country where our national team plays have a long duration (…), however, during these years I have always honored the calls, even in situations where professionally it would be advisable to refuse or temporarily abdicate our selection, putting our selection above my personal and professional ambitions (…)”, he justified at the time.

However, the player continued, “(…) today (04.09.2021) after collective training for the match against the Nigeria national team, it was clear that my help at the moment is expendable, since, despite the long journey made since Serbia, it was clear that for the technical team I don’t count for the first or second team”.

“It should be noted that in the aforementioned training session there were two teams, and I was left out of both. Now, taking into account my age and all the constraints with traveling to represent our team, I understand that not being part of the choice of the technical team of our team, it makes no sense to continue to be part of our team (…) ”, he argued.

At the time, a gradual recovery from an injury would be in question, and the Bubista coach said that his behavior had been “a total disrespect” to “the technical, medical team, colleagues and the country itself”.

Heard by RCV, he also said that when a player leaves a team it is for “lack of team spirit and commitment”.
