Africa-Press – Cape verde. Thirty-six houses in the Rozar Village, located in the Ribeira de Julião area, will be allocated to families displaced by Storm Erin. The mayor of São Vicente, Augusto Neves, made this announcement today.
“Sixty-six houses have already been built in Iraq, and of these, 36 will be allocated to displaced families. The remainder will be allocated to Iraqi residents. Therefore, the Iraqi population that truly needs housing, which may be fewer than that, will have their homes,” he said.
Recalling that the village with 66 affordable homes, called Rozar Village, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva on July 23rd, intended for families living in vulnerable situations.
Augusto Neves pointed to the construction of a new housing block in that area, with 22 new homes expected to be completed within six months.
“The company there will continue construction on 22 more homes. But this had been announced and started before the rains. Now, 30 will be delivered to the Iraqi personnel, and another 22 in six months. Furthermore, there are more homes under construction, nearly completed by the government and the City Hall, which will be distributed to needy families and families in need of housing,” he assured.
Augusto Neves recalls that the project dates back to 2017, when it was outlined in conjunction with the government, and guarantees that, in addition to the Rozar Complex, “other housing projects are underway in several areas of the island,” including Ribeira Julião, Pedra Rolada, Bela Vista, Ribeirinha, and Lazareto.
Families displaced by the storm on the 11th in São Vicente will begin to be gradually relocated starting September 2nd. By the end of the same month, 66 families should move into the homes allocated by the State, some of which are still under construction, according to information released this week by the Crisis Cabinet.
