Russia has transferred scholarship value to Cape Verdean students – says embassy

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Russia has “rigorously” fulfilled its commitments with regard to the payment of scholarships to the 31 Cape Verdean students with scholarships awarded by the country, the Embassy in Cape Verde clarified in a statement. As for the sending of support from Cape Verde, he says that some time ago he made suggestions to the Cape Verdean authorities for the purpose.

The clarification follows news that were published in recent days, reporting the difficult situation experienced by Cape Verdean students in Russia, who allege difficulties caused by the impossibility of receiving support from Cape Verde.

According to the Russian Embassy, there are currently a total of 34 students in the country, three of which are self-study and 31 are holders of scholarships awarded by the Russian Federation.

As for scholarship holders, the same source guarantees, Russia “strictly fulfills its commitments with regard to the payment of scholarships, through monthly transfers to the bank accounts of Cape Verdean students in local currency (rubles)”.

To date, he claims, the Embassy has not registered any report of any delay in the payment of these grants.

“Continue Dialogue”

However, with regard to the sending of monetary aid from Cape Verde, they justify that, following requests from the Cape Verdean authorities, the Russian Embassy, in Praia, some time ago presented its suggestions as to a possible official mechanism for sending of support traditionally given to Cape Verdean students.

“The Russian diplomatic mission remains available to continue the dialogue with all interested parties and provide the necessary assistance in favor of defending the legitimate interests of Cape Verdean students who are in Russia in the spirit of traditionally friendly relations between the peoples of the our two countries”, he informed.

As a result of the international sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation, in the context of the war with Ukraine, dozens of students in that country have reported difficulties and delays in receiving Cape Verde scholarships.
