Africa-Press – Cape verde. Carlos Santos made these considerations when presiding over the inauguration of the new hiace terminal in asparagos, on Wednesday night, an infrastructure budgeted at around four thousand contos, which, according to the local authority, will contribute to better organization of interurban transport on the island and greater discipline among professionals linked to the sector.
“The president has already accustomed us to excellent social facilities in both cities, but also Pedra de Lume and Palmeira, demonstrating that he has a social concern, on an island that is eminently touristic and that he is increasingly taking his step towards creating the conditions to better welcome its visitors and also bring a quality of life to everyone who chose the island of Sal to live”, he highlighted.
“ The island of Sal is in fact a majestic island, which today receives more than half of the tourists who visit Cape Verde and is therefore important in terms of the national economy and that is why the Government decided at the right time that 50 percent (% ) of what was collected from the tourist tax is channeled back to the municipalities, and Sal, having the capacity to welcome around 50% of tourists, is also one of the biggest beneficiaries ”, he continued.
Carlos Santos also highlighted that it is based on this criterion that the island witnesses the birth of infrastructures that give greater urbanity to the island.
“ It is infrastructure like these that gives greater urbanity to what is an island, qualifies the two main cities and in this case introduces greater discipline in the transport of our workers who work every day in hotels, tourists and we are thus transforming this island ”, said Carlos Santos.
The official concluded by rejoicing at the fact that the country will have received more than one million tourists in 2023, that is, “ before 2024, which was the projected year for that number, Cape Verde reached the mark of one million and 10 thousand tourists ”, he concluded.
For the mayor of Sal, Júlio Lopes, this is an “ important step ” for the island, giving greater aesthetics to this space and organizing traffic on the island.
“ This investment is not just a hiaces terminal, it is a historic space for the island that only receives this first phase for now, but other infrastructure will be included so that the population of Sal has another space to coexist” , he said.
The mayor said that the island has adopted healthy, aesthetically beautiful and organized cities as its motto, and offers an increasingly pleasant city to residents.
On behalf of the Sal hiacistas association, Carlos Delgado, considered that this terminal, now inaugurated, will provide better working conditions for professionals in this area who have been demanding more dignity for these workers from the authorities.
Carlos Delgado said he is now waiting for a meeting with the local authority to understand how the space will be used, but called on fellow professionals to “ make the best use of the terminal and work towards its preservation ”.
It should be remembered that the infrastructure is budgeted at around four thousand contos, with 4,113m2 of paved area, but that will be included in the next phase with other equipment that allows greater aesthetics to this space that will serve the entire population of the island and visitors .
