Africa-Press – Cape verde. Hiacistas, in Sal, decided, on their own, to increase fare prices, with effect from today, without the authorities’ notice, however the police were on the ground making strict markings preventing this practice.
The hiacistas’ own initiative to apply new prices, in the order of 50 percent, took users of this means of transport by surprise on the Espargos/Santa Maria route and vice versa, a situation that made the workers, as everything indicates, arriving at their work station late.
This is because, upon the announcement of the increase in the fare from 100 to 150 escudos on this route, starting today, December 1st, a measure taken unilaterally and illegally, the police were on the ground stopping drivers for investigation.
However, even those who agreed to pay this amount were unable to travel because the drivers were prevented by the traffic police from transporting passengers, which generated some dissatisfaction among them.
According to the hiacists, they took this decision to pressure the competent authorities to consider the situation, already communicated, because the tariff still in force dates back almost three decades, without having undergone any changes, in other words, “out of step” with the reality of Salt. and the country, due to the current economic situation.
By the way, Inforpress tried to listen to the city authorities, but without success, and the Hiacistas Association preferred not to make any statement for now, waiting, first, for a position from the city council on the proposal to update the price list.
