Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic (PR), José Maria Neves, today, 31, makes a four-day visit to Sal to learn about the socioeconomic reality of the island, “heavily” buffeted by the impacts of the Covid -19 pandemic.

According to a press release, José Maria Neves makes this visit to Sal, within the framework of the proximity magistracy that he defined for his mandate, at a time when the tourist island, after the pandemic, is now looking to rebuild itself with the resumption of tourism, its main economic activity.

The head of state, who intends to see the social reality, economic dynamics and the island’s major challenges after being buffeted by the impacts of the covid-19 pandemic, begins his work schedule with a courtesy visit to the mayor, Júlio Lopes, at 09:00. Then to the Águas de Ponta Preta Company, and to the National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (INMG).

On this trip, where he intends to have direct contacts with the population, with the authorities and the leaders of the various sectors of activity, the President of the Republic, according to the same source, will pay “strong attention” to the social sector, with a focus on employment, housing and the family. As well as in the fight against Gender-Based Violence and the sexual violation of minors, with visits to various communities and related institutions.
