Africa-Press – Cape verde. The leader of the Independent and Democratic Cabo Verdean Union (UCID), João Santos Luís, said on Monday that he is “disappointed” by the situation of the fishing and agriculture sectors in the Sal Island, which are “completely abandoned”.
João Santos Luís made these statements on Monday, at the end of his three-day visit to Sal to take a pulse to the primary sector, focusing on fishing and agriculture, but also other contacts, namely with businessmen, activists and party leaders on the island.
On his visit, the Christian Democratic Party leader was in the three main points of the island, Palmeira, Pedra de Lume and Santa Maria, having met with the Fishermen’s Associations from these localities, where he said he was “amazed and disappointed” by the situation of fishermen on the island and with the attitude from the national authorities in this matter.
“We found ‘on site’ that, in fact, the fishing sector on the Sal Island is abandoned. There are no conditions for fishermen to practice their profession”, he reiterated, noting that the problems he found in Palmeira are identical to those of other localities.
