Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Taxi Association on the island of Sal has once again asked for fares to be updated on this island. According to the president, Adalberto Silva, the island has had the same taxi fare for a long time, without it being updated, having presented a proposal to the City Council about a year ago, still without a response.
Adalberto Silva made this complaint again in the period before the agenda for citizens, during the work of the thirteenth ordinary session of the Municipal Assembly, which began today and is due to end on Wednesday, 27th.
“About a year ago, the Taxi Association held a meeting with the city council about the tariff update proposal, and we never received any response, probably not even sent by the Municipal Assembly, so we are grateful for this attention”, he stated.
Customer complaints
He explained that because of the non-update of fares, taxi drivers are faced with complaints from customers complaining about the prices currently charged, that is, 1,500 escudos for a day trip, to Santa Maria, and two thousand escudos at night.
“They are complaining because we have an old tariff, which has not been updated. But, in a meeting with the city council, in the presence of president Júlio Lopes and councilors, also the president of the Tourism Institute, Humberto Lélis, prices were agreed at 1,500 for a day trip to Santa Maria, and at night two thousand escudos ”, he reiterated.
Tariff update
According to Adalberto Silva, the complaints are made “precisely” because these prices are not included in the tariff, which needs to be updated.
“And the impression that remains is that taxi drivers are applying the price as they please. Therefore, we came here to ask when the tariff update proposal will be taken for approval, and to avoid these situations that are still unpleasant”, he noted.
