Santa Catarina: Feira kicks off celebrations to mark the 24th anniversary of the city of Assomada

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The city of Assomada officially began its 24th anniversary celebrations with the traditional 13th of May Fair, which opened on Saturday and “promises to liven up the city until May 10th”.

This event marks, as highlighted to Inforpress by the councilor responsible for the area of Commerce, at the Municipal Council of Santa Catarina, Maria José da Veiga, the starting point of the festivities that celebrate the elevation of Assomada to the category of city, marked on May 13, reinforcing local pride and identity.

According to the councilor, the fair will take place over a week filled with cultural and musical activities, exhibitions and regional cuisine.

“We want to promote meetings between generations, value our culture and support our entrepreneurs”, highlighted Veiga.

The fair has the participation of 29 diverse stands, presenting gastronomic products, crafts, agriculture, seafood and other items that reflect the richness and diversity of Santa Catarina.

“This is an entrepreneurship and cultural initiative, aimed at showcasing the talent and creativity of the people of Santa Catarina, in addition to promoting the exchange of experiences between visitors and exhibitors,” he assured.

Among the participants, market vendor Elaine Ramos, from Tarrafalinho, says that she has already participated in several editions and that for this one, she brought a variety of local products, such as green corn, bananas, mangoes, eggs and pine nuts, expressing enthusiasm with the movement on the first day.

“These fairs are essential for winning new customers and promoting our products,” said Elaine.

The company Brasa & Sabores is participating for the first time and presents the services it offers, including buffets, hot and cold dishes, sweet and savory dishes, as well as decoration services.

Representative Mariete Pena highlighted the importance of formalizing local entrepreneurship, emphasizing that actions of this type help entrepreneurs take their first steps, as it is an opportunity to showcase services and products.

In terms of crafts, we find artisan Edinilsom Semedo who is present at the fair with handmade pieces, including leather art, bracelets, keychains and items made with stones from the Fogo volcano.

According to the same source, many are his own creations, but he also has products from other artisans at his stand as a way of helping them promote their products as well.

“We want to value our culture and show that Cape Verde, more specifically Santa Catarina, has talents that deserve to be highlighted,” said Edinilsom.

Rosilene Mascarenhas, who is participating for the third time, presents visitors with natural oils and soaps, highlighting the potential of local products to promote young entrepreneurship.

“This fair is an excellent opportunity to promote our products and strengthen the economy of Santa Catarina,” he commented.

The event organizers have a team dedicated to ensuring the fair runs smoothly, with trash cans and bathrooms available to promote sustainability and civility among visitors.

The expectation is that the success of this edition will contribute to strengthening the entrepreneurial culture in the municipality and establishing partnerships with other entrepreneurs from other locations.

“We invite all Santa Catarina residents and visitors to come to the 13 de Maio Fair, enjoy the products and experiences on offer, and celebrate another chapter in the history of Assomada. May this celebration be marked by joy, unity and pride in being Cape Verdeans,” concluded the councilor.
