Santa Catarina: Government shares 20 million escudos for the rehabilitation of the multi-sports center in Nhagar

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Government will contribute with 20 thousand contos, in the rehabilitation works of the sports center Celestino dos Santos Almada, in the neighborhood of Nhagar, in Assomada, in the municipality of Santa Catarina.

The rehabilitation of the sports center, according to the mayor of Santa Catarina, Jassira Monteiro, needs a “fund intervention”, and represents an investment of around 40 million escudos.

In addition to the Government’s contribution, the head of the municipal executive said she hoped to have other partners, so that she could rehabilitate what she considered to be “one of the largest” sports infrastructures in the country.

The rehabilitation involves, above all, the replacement of the floor, ceiling and lighting, but, according to the mayor, it is necessary to study the materials and avoid going against the climate of this municipality in the interior of Santiago.

PRRA program resumed

On the other hand, the mayor also considered as “good news” the announcement of the resumption of works under the Requalification, Rehabilitation and Accessibility Program (PRRA), especially those on the Cruz de Picos/Boa Entradinha/Gil Bispo road, access to the Achada Tossa/Tabugal, the road that connects Tomba Touro/Charco/Achada Leite/Ribeira da Barca and also the restoration of the Church of Santa Catarina.

It is recalled that, in October 2021, the newspaper A NAÇÃO gave voice to complaints from athletes, representatives of clubs and associations about the state of degradation of this multi-sport that was once considered one of the best sports complexes in Cape Verde. This infrastructure, inaugurated in 2010, cost around 135 million escudos, representing 98 million escudos more than expected, which caused, at the time, strong controversy around the management of the City Council.
