Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Santa Cruz City Council, Carlos Silva, announced this Monday a salary increase for the 120 sanitation professionals in this municipality in the interior of Santiago, starting in March 2024.
Carlos Silva was speaking at a press conference, in the city of Pedra Badejo, to react to the complaint by the Union of Industry, Services, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries (SISCAP) about the employment situation of sanitation professionals in the Santa Cruz municipality.
The demands include the failure to update the salary scale of these employees, in accordance with the salary table, classifying them in the Level I Operational Category, with a base salary of 15,000$00 contos, with retroactive effects to 2013, but also the failure to update the salary of 2.2 percent (%) allocated by the Government to public administration employees, with retroactive effect to January 2019.
The Union of Industry, Services, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries (SISCAP), which once again denounced the Santa Cruz City Council for the practice of “serious labor irregularities” with sanitation professionals, also pointed out the failure to update and adjust salaries for 3.5% for the year 2023, as well as the mandatory registration of workers in the National Social Security Institute (INPS) system, in accordance with the law.
In reaction, the mayor of Santa Cruz, who recalled that the chamber he leads has 700 employees, assured that the municipality’s intention has always been to regularize the situation of all its employees during the 2020-2024 mandate.
Regarding the 120 employees in the sanitation area, who, according to him, work only two hours a day, he said that in addition to the salary increase, they will have access to INPS coverage and will start working eight hours a day.
“ We already have the calculations done and the process is already properly set up. Starting from the salary for the month of March next year, sanitation professionals will have an increase in accordance with what is already stipulated as the national minimum wage ”, he guaranteed, adding that this increase, which is included in the Budget for 2024, covers all city officials.
The mayor, who was flanked by his team of councilors, also committed to meeting other demands from these sanitation professionals, especially the PCCS.
On the occasion, the head of the municipal executive said that they will also invest in the training of these sanitation professionals who will become part of the permanent employees of the Santa Cruz City Council in 2024, so that they can perform their duties increasingly better.
