
Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, inaugurated this Tuesday, 23rd, the residence for trainees and trainers in the municipality of Santa Cruz, an investment of around 45 thousand contos.,
In his speech, the head of Government highlighted the Government’s efforts with various partners to create opportunities for young people, but also to create opportunities for the country’s development.
In the context of residences, he said that there is another challenge, namely the issue of university social action, highlighting the fact that the country is islands, with some difficulties in connection and mobility.
In this sense, continued the head of the Government, the residences will not only allow young people from other islands or municipalities to have the opportunity to study and train, but also allow the country to welcome young people from other Portuguese-speaking areas, who have a very close relationship close with Cape Verde, for example with São Tomé and Príncipe.
The Prime Minister also recalled that a few years ago, in the municipality of Santa Cruz, the conversation was always around poverty and problems, but today, it is clear that “there is a significant change”.
This change, according to Ulisses Correia e Silva, was first in attitude, justifying that “poverty is not a fatality, but something that can be altered and changed, primarily in people’s minds”.
He also highlighted the relevance of the issue of opportunity, entrepreneurship, employment and ability to achieve, business, micro-small and medium-sized enterprises and training, due to the “confidence achieved in achievements”.
For her part, the Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Godinho, considered that this was a “symbolic day” in what has been the cooperative relationship between Portugal and Cape Verde.
In fact, he recalled the problems faced with the process, due to Covid-19, but was pleased that, even so, the obstacles were overcome, and today this residence was handed over, completely renovated and equipped to serve the municipality, the island, the country and partners.
Likewise, he highlighted that the cooperation assumed between the two countries is a cooperation independent of the governments that take the lead and that this partnership, the mobility agreement between Portugal and Cape Verde “is an immense example to the world that these barriers between peoples are increasingly they have to be torn down”, because this is the only way to go further and further.
Along this path, Ana Godinho highlighted that what unites these two countries are people and human capital, a “decisive investment” that the world has to make more and more, as it is an “investment in people that makes a difference in a country ”.
For the Mayor of Santa Cruz, Carlos Silva, this investment will guarantee a better socioeconomic development of this municipality, highlighting that despite having operated for a short time in the past, the building received several young people, including from other partner countries.
The mayor considered that the building has its history in the process of training and transforming the lives of young people, but also its contribution to the development of the municipality and the country.
Also present at the event, the president of the board of directors of the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP), Paulo Santos, asserted that the Government defines employment and professional training as “one of the priority areas of those who seek excellence and improvement professional”.
Hence, he considered that professional training is “a fundamental pillar” for personal growth and the advancement of society, adding that it provides opportunities, opens doors and empowers individuals to face the challenges of the professional world with competence and confidence.
In this sense, he said that the biggest challenge is to “transform Cape Verde into a country of opportunities for young people”, with particular emphasis on those who are out of employment, training and out of education.
Regarding the space, he said that the focus is on working to make it a welcoming environment, where creativity and innovation can flourish and the seeds of knowledge germinate and bear fruit, so that each trainee and trainer can continue to grow, overcome and contribute to the well-being and progress of society.
The infrastructure rehabilitation work is part of the project to establish Centers of Professional Excellence in Cape Verde, with the support of Portugal and the work was designed to serve as a “national reference” and to “promote qualification and training excellent professional.”
The financing protocol for the residence’s rehabilitation works was signed in November 2019, within the scope of the 2018-2021 Cooperation program between the Ministry of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security of Portugal and the Ministry of Finance of Cape Verde, and the total investment in the works is around 45 thousand contos.
In the morning, the Portuguese government official paid a visit to support structures for income-generating activities, in the municipality of São Lourenço dos Órgãos, a project implemented by SOLMI within the scope of the Cooperation Program between the Ministry of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security of Portugal and the Ministry of Family, Inclusion and Social Development of Cape Verde.
