As we found out, the police and judicial authorities are investigating this new blood crime, but until the end of the edition of this piece they have not provided any information about this occurrence that has caused panic among the population of the quiet village of Mato Baixo and Santa Catarina in general.
According to Tiver and several other sources of information, this new crime of homicide occurred on Wednesday morning, when the victim was using his vehicle. It is said that António Pires, better known as Alcides, left home to take his wife to work, accompanied by three minor children. On the way, an unexpected tragedy occurred: another car appeared, without a registration plate, and from inside it five shots were fired in a row, three of which fatally hit Alcides in the chest. He was taken to Hospital Agostinho Neto alive, but died on the afternoon of that same Wednesday, 26th, as he could not resist the serious injuries he suffered.
The judicial authorities have not yet revealed the possible perpetrators of this blood crime. Eyewitnesses indicate, however, that inside the attackers’ vehicle were four people, considered suspects, not yet confirmed by the authorities.
António Pires was an emigrant in Portugal – he lived in Sacavém and Prior Velho, in Lisbon. Having returned to Cape Verde, he purchased a tract of land in Mato Baixo, in Santa Catarina, where he lived with his family and practiced agriculture. Family members reveal that the purchase of this land did not please certain residents, who allegedly may have been involved in Alcides’ murder. But the police have not yet confirmed this suspicion, the motive for this crime or its possible perpetrators.
Child shot in ASA and found dead at sea
But the crime wave in Santiago doesn’t stop there. This Friday, 27th, a man was found dead at sea, after two days, in Tarrafal de Santiago, «with signs of a chest wound». According to some readers who commented on the Asemanaonline forum, «it is suspected that the man was killed and then thrown into the sea».
In the city of Praia, according to the same source and circulated on social media, on Friday the 27th, a 4-year-old child was shot in the shoulder, while playing in Achada de Santo António, during a fight between rival groups.
However, the police authorities are awaiting a statement on these crimes, which are disturbing residents of Santiago and Cape Verde in general.
