Africa-Press – Cape verde. Porto Novo is among the four national ports that, throughout the month of April, will receive cruise ship calls, according to the schedule announced by Enapor – Portos de Cabo Verde.
Enapor reported that, during April, four ports in Cape Verde will receive ship calls, namely, the port of Praia, with 17 calls, Porto Grande, with eight calls, Porto Novo, with three calls, and the port of Vale dos Cavaleiros, with only one call.
Porto Novo, which received five calls in March, has been one of the ports that receives the most calls from cruise ships this cruise season, which began in October and ends in May.
In the 2023 – 2024 season, Porto Novo received 22 calls and 1,680 passengers, making it the fourth most visited port during the cruise season.
The Minister of Tourism and Transport, José Luís Sá Nogueira, said last week in Santo Antão that the Government is monitoring the development of cruise tourism on this island and estimates the increase in this segment of tourism within the framework of the expansion of the port of Porto Novo, whose works are due to start in 2025. Enapor – Portos de Cabo Verde has already admitted that the works to expand the port of Porto Novo will start at the end of this year, with the works expected to last between three and four years.
The expansion of the port of Porto Novo is part of a package of “major investments” planned under the European Union’s Global Gateway initiative, which should be carried out over three to four years.
