Africa-Press – Cape verde. The natural park of Cova/Ribeira da Torre/Paul, on the island of Santo Antão, considered the largest biodiversity centre for endemic plants in Cabo Verde, has just received more than a thousand endemic species.
The information was released today by the Associação das Mulheres do Planalto Leste (Amupal), which has been implementing a project to preserve the endemic flora in Santo Antão, within the scope of which it has already carried out five reforestation campaigns in the natural park of Cova/Ribeira da Torre/Paul, which resulted in the introduction of 1,049 endemic species.
This park, with an area of 2,092 hectares, considered the largest center of biodiversity of endemic plants in Cape Verde, received, in 2019, the international Melina Mercouri award from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) for the safeguarding and management of cultural landscapes.
The Amupal defends the need of a project to enhance this park from a tourist point of view, one of the most visited sites in Santo Antão by ecotourism lovers.
