Africa-Press – Cape verde. The rains that fell early this morning caused flooding, rockfall, road damage, and agricultural losses in Santo Antão, but no casualties were reported.

In Ribeira Grande, the situation is stable, despite rockfalls during the early morning hours, especially in the Lomba de Santa area, which forced traffic closures on that road, said Armindo Luz, the mayor of Ribeira Grande, in an interview with Rádio Morabeza.

However, the mayor revealed that, in the Caibros region, some yams were swept out to sea, prompting farmers to file complaints. He believes they were not informed about the possibility of heavy rains.

Regarding agriculture, he also reports wall collapses on some properties.

The road leading into Vale de Caibros, along the creek bed, was damaged by the floods. Luz noted that, as soon as the waters dry up, they will begin repair work.

There were also rockfalls in several locations, such as on the Ponta de Sol road, fallen trees, and people blocked the roads, but these were recovered with the support of the local population.

In an interview with Rádio Morabeza, Porto Novo’s Civil Protection Councilman, Celso Medina, reported that there had been some flooding at the city level, but no casualties.

He added that some inland communities were unable to travel, such as Alto Mira and Ribeira da Cruz.

Floods also flooded the Água de Porto Novo water company, but he assured that cleanup is underway and the situation is being assessed.

He also assured that the City Council and municipal authorities are on the ground monitoring the situation.
