The official start of the Santo Antão Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies, on October 17th, will mark the beginning of higher education on Ilha das Montanhas. The ceremony will take place at the institution’s headquarters, in Porto Novo, and will be presided over by the prime minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva.
The announcement was made today by the secretary of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies of Santo Antão, Felismina Reis, who confirmed that the opening ceremony of this institute will be presided over by the head of the Government, Ulisses Correia e Silva.
The rector of the Universidade Técnica do Atlântico, João do Monte, and the president of the Association of Municipalities of Santo Antão, Aníbal Fonseca, were also present at the event, which marks the official opening of higher education in Santo Antão.
The Santo Antão Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies is one of the organic units of the Universidade Técnica do Atlântico.
For the president of the Association of Municipalities of Santo Antão, higher education on this island, as of October 17th, is “a dream come true for all the people of Santo Antão”.
“The Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies came to Santo Antão to stay”, declared Aníbal Fonseca, for whom this university center will provide “high quality academic training in unique areas in Cape Verde (Agronomy, Animal Science, Environment and the like).
