Santo Antão: Immigrants’ Association welcomes opening of the period for extraordinary regularization

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Immigrants’ Association of Santo Antão (AERSA) welcomed on Thursday the opening by the Government of the period for extraordinary regularization of the situation of immigrants residing in the archipelago, which began on January 15.

The vice president of this association, Dibane Dabo, told Inforpress that it is “a great opportunity” for the “many immigrants” residing in Santo Antão who “have been waiting a long time” for the regularization of their residence situation.

This week, foreign citizens from ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) participated in a clarification meeting promoted by the City Hall of Porto Novo, which has already secured all support in this process, which will run until June 15.

According to AERSA, more than a hundred foreign citizens reside in Santo Antão, 59 in Porto Novo, 49 in Ribeira Grande and the remaining three in Paul, “many of whom” have been waiting “for four, five and six years” for the renovation or legalization of residence.
