Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Association for Environment and Sustainable Development (Terrimar) has in preparation the protection season of sea turtles on the island of Santo Antão in 2022, which kicks off “in mid-June”, extending until October.
Terrimar, according to a note to which Inforpress had access, is recruiting technicians to join the sea turtle monitoring team on the Santo Antão beaches in the 2022 season, which, among other tasks, will carry out night patrols, identification and marking of nesting females, the collection of biometric data and the monitoring of nests.
Terrimar has been working on the Santo Antão beaches since 2011 and currently has reached most of the island’s nesting beaches ranging from the coast of Porto Novo, through Tarrafal, Cruzinha and the Northwest Coast to Monte Trigo.
“Last year we had a record number of nests. Therefore, we need a greater number of motivated employees to reach all the nesting beaches of the island”, said this association, which has the purpose of environmental protection and conservation.
