Santo Antão: UCID presents Anilton Silva Fernandes as a candidate for Paul City Council

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the UCID, João Santos Luís, presented this Saturday, 20th, in the city of Pombas, Anilton Silva Fernandes as the party’s candidate for the next local elections in the municipality of Paul, this being the second time he has run for the position.

“It is our firm conviction that the UCID candidate for the 2024 local elections, in the municipality of Paul, the Physics and Chemistry professor, Anilton Silva Fernandes, has vision, strategy, wisdom and necessary humility, attributes that we consider decisive to capitalize on the enormous potential that this municipality holds” , he stated.

According to Santos Luís, the candidate is aware of his responsibilities and knows “very well” the municipality that saw him born, “its weaknesses, but also its strengths and potential”.

And in this sense, the president of the UCID considered that Anilton Fernandes is “in a position to serve” Paul in the best possible way, and not “serve” the council as, according to the same source, “has been happening” with the successive mandates of presidents of the ruling party.

According to the politician, Paul’s council “cannot” continue in the “doldrums” in which it finds itself, because in his view, Paul “urgently” needs a mayor with a “strong dialogue stance, with technical capacity and with conditions to look for appropriate solutions” that serve the municipality and make it reach a level of development that the people of São Paulo desire.

The president of the UCID also made it known that the party in the next municipal elections will also compete for the municipal councils of Ribeira Grande and Porto Nove and that they will soon present the candidates.

Anilton Silva Fernandes, 43 years old, from São Paulo, was born on October 2, 1980, and was raised in the town of Lombo Cumprido, in the interior of the municipality of Paul.

Father of two children, single, from 2002 to 2005 he studied Physics and Chemistry at the Higher Education Institute.

Since 2006, he has taught Physics and Chemistry at the António Januário Leite secondary school, in Paul.

He is currently elected municipal member of the UCID in the Paul Municipal Assembly.

In the next municipal elections he will run for the second time for the position of president of the Paul City Council, currently led by António Aleixo (MpD), who won the 2020 elections with 54.4% of the votes.

The National Elections Commission (CNE) of Cape Verde proposed holding the next local elections in the country in November.

The eighth and last municipal elections in Cape Verde were held on October 20, 2020, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, to choose the mayors of the 22 municipalities in the archipelago.

The Movement for Democracy (MpD), which leads the Government, won 14 chambers, while the Cape Verde African Independence Party (PAICV, opposition) won eight.
