Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Movement for Democracy (MpD) bench in the Municipal Assembly of São Domingos reacted, this Wednesday, 20, to the statements of the mayor about the “inherited debts” of the previous team, saying that the objective is to apologize for the their inability to manage.
This reaction was made by the leader of the municipal bench of the Movement for Democracy (MpD) of São Domingos, Admilson Moniz, at a press conference in Praia, following statements by Isaías Varela, who pointed out “large inherited debts” from the previous team as a limitation in the municipal exercise.
This official questioned the real reason for the press conference given by the mayor of São Domingos, two years after his inauguration, and after the approval of two budgets.
According to Moniz, the demands and pressure from citizens have been constant and increasingly intense, causing the “desperation and disorientation” of the current municipal team.
“Lack of vision”
Admilson Moniz accused Isaías Varela of “lack of vision and strategy” to respond to the challenges facing the municipality, since, he said, the current team has been doing day-to-day management for two years, and the promised “new hope” has transformed it. if “too soon” in a “true disappointment” for the citizens.
He recalled, on the other hand, that the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV), as an opposition, for many years, criticized the excess of staff in the chamber, “made it their workhorse and political weapon”, but that as soon as he took power he did exactly the opposite of what he defended.

“It is too serious for the Municipality of São Domingos, with the financial problems that the President says to have, to hire two legal advisors, in the amount of 240 thousand escudos per month. The most serious thing is the fact that one of the legal advisors is assigned exclusively to the function of controlling fuels, to receive 120 contos at the end of the month”, he denounced.
For this bench, the press conference given by the mayor is “completely incomprehensible and unreasonable”, two weeks after contracting a debt of 160 thousand escudos with the Stock Exchange. He asks, therefore, how a chamber with a debt of 260 thousand contos and in financial bankruptcy, resorts to a bond loan.
“Management inability”
“With regard to inherited debts, President Isaias Varela, once again, blatantly lied, with the sole purpose of apologizing for his inability to manage, knowing that all the works completed by the previous team were fully paid,” he said.
According to Admilson Varela, such inherited debts are from the city council and not from city council teams, for whom “it is strange” that the mayor did not mention the value found in the coffers when he took office.
The leader of the MpD municipal bench also explained that the outstanding payments relate to works not completed in due time, and that, starting with the mandate of the new municipal team, all outstanding amounts were transferred to payment to suppliers/ service providers to the City Hall.
As for debts to the National Institute of Social Security (INPS), he accused the current city council team of having found an agreed payment plan, but that it “simply abandoned it” and has not been paying the institution “leaving workers in a difficult situation”. .
“A good manager does not focus on problems, but rather looks for solutions”, said Moniz, for whom the current team has not fulfilled even 10% of its campaign promises.
