Africa-Press – Cape verde. The São Filipe City Council, through the municipal Environment department, is reinforcing the storage capacity for urban solid waste in the city’s neighborhoods, with the placement of over 100 containers.

The councilor responsible for the environment and sanitation sector, João José Canuto, told Inforpress that the municipality received 100 containers that are being distributed across different neighborhoods with a view to strengthening the storage and collection capacity of solid urban waste.

The councilor said that the municipal Environment department is awaiting the arrival of the appropriate truck for collecting waste, with a capacity of 17 tonnes, which is in the City of Praia awaiting transport to the island of Fogo, to begin, on an experimental basis. , household waste collection in some neighborhoods and localities, thus removing containers from the streets, on the one hand, and allowing for reinforced collection within the municipality, on the other.

In addition to increasing storage capacity, the municipal Environment department reinforced the collection of other types of waste, such as cardboard, packaging and others, with the placement of two open-top vehicles that were adapted for this purpose.

The sanitation service was also reinforced with the recruitment of more staff for a period of four months, according to the councilor.

According to the same source, João José Canuto appealed to all residents of São Filipe to make good use of the containers, aiming to keep São Filipe as the cleanest and most attractive municipality, but also to avoid vandalizing the containers themselves.
