
Africa-Press – Cape verde. The holding of swimming and athletics events in the veteran and paralympic modalities are innovations for the sports program for the 2024 edition of the Municipality Day and São Filipe Flag celebrations.
The councilor for sports at the São Filipe council, João José Canuto, said that in terms of swimming the intention is to hold competitions in the senior and junior male and female categories.
Registration for these events that have been introduced, as well as the usual ones such as horse riding, regatta, cycling and table games, are open at the council counter until April 12th.
Regarding equestrianism, an activity that attracts the largest number of people, councilor João José Canuto said that the chamber’s intention is to increase the value of prizes in the coming years, but that this year the value will be the same as that awarded in the last two years, i.e. is, 500 contos for the first classified, 250, 200, 150, 130 and 100 contos for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classified, respectively.
Just for the attribution of monetary prizes for horse racing the value exceeds 1,300 contos without counting the attribution of participation prizes and trophies that will be awarded to the first six classified.
In relation to other modalities, the value of the prizes remains the same as in the previous edition.
When we are just a little closer to the start of the Municipality Day and São Filipe Flag festivities, the highlight of which runs from the 25th of April to the 1st of May, this year under the motto “nôs munícipes”, the presence of some cyclists in the process of preparing for the race, as well as some athletes.
At a cultural level, artists and musical groups such as Gil Semedo, Tony Kika, Grace Évora, Matias Damásio, X-Treme, Ferro Gaita, Apollo G, Don Kikas, Elgi Beatzkilla, Garry, Marizia do Rosário, Filipe Pereira, António Silva, Buguin Martins, Nayna and CEESF, but the chamber continues to announce artists on its social media page and the list is not yet closed.
