São Filipe Vendors Face Mixed Sales at Festival Start

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The first day of the Prison Festival began Sunday night with music and high expectations, but among the vendors set up at the site, the initial assessment is divided, oscillating between moderate optimism and complaints of weak business.

Leandro Pires, who started selling recently, expressed confidence in the event’s progress throughout the night.

“Sales are going well. I opened recently, but so far everything is OK. I hope it improves even more as the night goes on,” he said.

Sandra da Rosa, known as Graciete, who sells skewers, described a less encouraging scenario in the first few hours.

“Unfortunately, sales aren’t great. Business is slow, but I believe it can improve over time and with the arrival of more people,” she said, pointing to the need for greater attendance to balance the costs incurred.

Maria Lopes, a vendor of various beverages, also said that the start was slow, but she maintains a positive outlook.

“The beginning was calm, but that’s normal. After midnight it usually gets more crowded. We are prepared to serve a lot of people,” he emphasized.

The musical program for the first day began at 11:30 PM with DJ Cash, followed by Trakinuz at midnight, Big Rasta at 1:30 AM, the group Quem é Bob? at 2:30 AM, Alyrio at 3:30 AM, and DJ Cash again at 5:00 AM, closing the early morning program.

The Festival at the Prison, which is part of the municipality’s cultural calendar, once again focuses on a strong musical component, attracting a young audience and emigrants who return to the island during this festive season.

For small businesses, the success of the event translates not only into cultural entertainment, but above all into the opportunity to boost income in a short period of time.
