Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Sport Club Farense team is the new senior men’s handball champion of São Vicente after having defeated, last Sunday, the Atlético do Mindelo team in the last game of the regional championship’s play-offs .
By winning Sunday’s game, Farense prevented Atlético do Mindelo from revalidating the title of champion of São Vicente, but the two teams will represent São Vicente in the national handball championship since, both the champion team in title, and the new champion, in this case Farense, has access to the tournament.
According to Inforpress, the coaches of the two teams consider that both teams present, at the moment, a “good competitive level” and can be serious candidates for the national title.
In turn, speaking to Inforpress, the president of the São Vicente Handball Association, Luís Fortes, rejoiced at the way the teams valued the tournament, in which there was “a lot of balance” and “very well played” games.
The national handball championship should take place in mid-August, and the host island that will be chosen among the applications presented by the regional associations has yet to be defined.
